While the Google Form elections for class officers may have felt less official this year, the class of 2022 has chosen its officers and they are ready to have another successful year.
While fundraising will be approached differently this year because of restrictions caused by COVID-19, the class officers are working towards one final, safe, successful year of fundraising in preparation for senior trips and activities. Since it is the last year to fundraise, president Michael Liu hopes to collect as many funds as possible by broadening “the variety of fundraising opportunities to encourage more students to participate.” Third-time treasurer Ethan Mathew expresses similar sentiments, stating, “I’m the money man. I just make cents.”
In difficult times like these, third-time historian Adriana Papdakis hopes that this year’s activities can also provide a sense of “togetherness and unity.” Second-time vice president Sean Liu agrees, stating that “the officers are well underway with developing several new fundraising events and plans that will not only make the bank, but also bring all of us together in a collaborative effort to fund our class.”
For secretary Will Hou, his vision to unite the junior class will be done through considering the input of the student body and planning activities that are “trendy and have some type of major prize for people to work towards.”
The class officers are not only representatives of the junior class, but also participate in various activities both inside and outside of school. Michael is a member of UNICEF, Red Cross, the chess club, and the JV boys tennis team, and engages in different projects at his local church.
Sean’s diverse interests are exemplified through his role as a captain of the Science Olympiad team and a board member of the STEM Board. He also plays cello for a string quartet and works on model building projects in his free time.
Will participates in MUN, TEAMS, fencing, and is interested in biomedical sciences.
Ethan is a Senior Patrol Leader in his Boy Scout troop and an assistant mechanical captain for the robotics team. He also plays soccer.
Adriana is a member of the high school field hockey and track teams, a peer leader, and a member of the National Art Honors Society. The officers’ involvement in these activities is a testament to their willingness to contribute to and be a productive member of any community.
Overall, the junior class officers are planning new, creative fundraisers that adapt to our current situation and work towards ensuring the best possible senior year for the class of 2022.
